Judges Comments

The impressive scale and the complexities of constructing high in the Himalayas makes the Chenab Bridge an extraordinary achievement. It is a steel lattice arch with a main span of 467m, making it one of the longest arches in the world as well as being the world’s highest railway bridge. It was built to promote development of the Jammu- Kashmir region, an area with very difficult access, where people generally travel by foot or on horseback. This bridge now enables railway connectivity across the region, connecting it into the rest of the country.
