Welcome!Message from the President, IABSE |
Dear Colleagues,
It is my great pleasure to warmly invite you to the IABSE Symposium 2027 in Guwahati, India, to be held from 22–24 April 2027 at the Mayfair Spring Valley Resort. Organised by the Indian National Group of IABSE (ING-IABSE), this symposium will bring together leading engineers, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from across the world to exchange knowledge, experience, and innovation in structural engineering.
The theme of the Symposium, “Structural Failures – Causes, Investigation, Resilience, Mitigation & Standardisation,” addresses one of the most critical challenges facing our profession today. As our infrastructure grows in scale and complexity, it becomes increasingly important to understand the root causes of failures, adopt advanced investigation techniques, enhance resilience in structural systems, and strengthen mitigation strategies and standards. These efforts are fundamental to ensuring safety, reliability, and sustainability in the built environment.
Through plenary lectures, keynote addresses, technical sessions, and case studies, the Symposium will provide a valuable global platform to share lessons learned and explore forward-looking approaches for more resilient infrastructure. The event will also feature exhibitions and a vibrant programme dedicated to young engineers, including interactive sessions, model-making competitions, and speed design challenges. These initiatives aim to foster creativity, encourage innovation, and provide valuable opportunities for young professionals to engage directly with global experts and contribute actively to the profession’s advancement. Guwahati, located on the banks of the majestic Brahmaputra River and known as the gateway to Northeast India, offers a unique and inspiring setting. Its rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and evolving infrastructure landscape make it an ideal host city for meaningful international dialogue and collaboration.
I warmly encourage engineers, researchers, manufacturers, contractors, suppliers and professionals from around the world to participate in this important Symposium and contribute through abstracts, papers, and discussions.
Your participation will play a vital role in advancing our collective understanding of structural performance, safety, and resilience.
I look forward to welcoming you to Guwahati in April 2027 for an engaging and enriching IABSE gathering.
With best wishes,

Harshavardhan Subbarao
