Welcome message from the IABSE President

Tina Vejrum
President of IABSE
2022 - 2025

Welcome to the website of the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering, IABSE.

IABSE is a scientific and technical Association established in 1929 in Zurich, Switzerland, with the aim of exchanging knowledge and advancing the practice of structural engineering worldwide in the service of the profession and society. Today the world is facing a number of global challenges where structural engineers and related professionals have a major role to play in identifying sustainable solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change and to support international collaboration in a time of conflict and unrest.

In IABSE, we believe in cooperation, professional dialogue and knowledge sharing as a means to foster understanding and respect between people and organisations. With close to 3000 members in over 100 different countries and 58 National Groups, the Association offers both a local presence and a strong international network. Our members represent a unique blend of academia, owners of structures, consultants, architects, and contractors – all with a profound interest in the built environment.

A key activity in the Association is the Young Engineers Programme (YEP) which builds on two fundamental core values of IABSE: The importance of young professionals in pushing for development and the need for international collaboration to achieve real change.

You are cordially invited to explore IABSE’s website, where you will find more information about our technical activities, including 50 Task Groups responsible for tangible development within their specific area of structural engineering and related fields.

We hope the activities of IABSE can provide value to you and the best way to benefit from the collective knowledge and experience anchored in the Association is to join our activities and become a member yourself. We look forward to welcoming you!
