Boorloo Bridge

Project Description:

Boorloo Bridge features two curved cable-stayed bridges and a 1.1 km segregated pedestrian and cyclist path over the Sawn River, connecting Victoria Park and Perth via Heirisson Island. Its innovative design honors the Swan River's cultural significance to Whadjuk Noongar traditional custodians, blending with the landscape and enhancing local connectivity.

Judges Comments

The Boorloo Bridge project integrates Noongar cultural heritage with advanced engineering. Its S-shaped, cable-stayed structures minimize environmental impact and use high-strength weathering steel for durability and reduced maintenance. Custom-designed LED lighting and tuned mass dampers address aesthetics, user comfort, and dynamic loads. Aerodynamic stability was validated via wind tunnel tests. A parametric 3D BIM model enhanced design efficiency, while innovative construction methods and sustainable materials minimized the carbon footprint and ensured a 100-year service life.
