Judges Comments
This enormous infrastructure project comprises a 24km long cluster of bridges, islands and tunnels, including the world’s first undersea interchange. The bridge structures include a suspension bridge with a 1660m main span, making it one of the longest open sea bridge spans anywhere, and a 580m span cable stayed bridge, with long connecting concrete viaducts with spans up to 110m. Located in an area prone to typhoons and with many challenging environmental conditions, the project demanded very careful planning and control on all construction activities.
