Zhengzhou Rainbow Bridge

Project Description:

The original Zhengzhou Rainbow Bridge was reconstructed rapidly by demolition-construction collaborative technology for transportation development and railway upgrading, expanding the railway-crossing bridge design system. The new bridge is a (121 + 125 + 121)-meter single-ribbed steel box tied arch bridge with an elegant appearance, making it a new landmark.

Judges Comments

This bridge stands at an important transportation hub in central China, crossing the largest railway marshalling station in Asia. The previous steel bridge, constructed in 1994, rapidly became deficient and required replacement, and the new structure is a striking 3-span arch bridge with a sinuous profile. The central, taller arch span replaces two smaller spans, making space for possible future rail tracks to be installed underneath, and the bridge creates a new identifiable landmark for the city.
