Project Description:

Stadium of Dong’an Lake Sports Park is the opening ceremony venue of the 31st World University Games. The roof is printed with the ancient culture totem Sun Bird, which is the world 's largest glazed glass lighting roof. The extra -long curved heavy-loaded platform structure is innovatively embedded in the light roof .

Judges Comments

The circular form of this large stadium enabled some modularity and repeatability in the design to achieve economies in both cost and carbon through an industrialised manufacture process. The form is achieved by large, triangulated steel cantilevers in a 3D spatial arrangement, reaching out over the stadium interior. The very large scale of the elements demanded a special approach to the design and testing of special steel nodes for several of the connections.
