The new ‘Torre Piloti’ of Genoa, project donated by Renzo Piano Building Workshop to Ports of Genoa, is a landmark structure ensuring port traffic control.

A true engineering challenge, it required advanced analyses to optimize stability.

Its steel lattice shaft supports the control cabin and the iconic canopy, combining aesthetic elegance with structural innovation, pre-tensioned stays, and an active damping system.

This slender and elegant port control tower redefines the skyline of Genoa. Its steel lattice shaft, stabilized with pre-tensioned Macalloy bars and active mass dampers, ensures satisfactory performance under dynamic wind loads. Advanced wind tunnel testing, CFD simulations and staged construction analysis all informed the structure's remarkable efficiency and resilience, balancing structural lightness and transparency with critical functionality.
