Karova Bridge Project Description: The New Warsaw Karowa Bridge - The new pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Vistula, with its architecture is part of new generation of highly architectural urban bridges. The bridge is not just infrastructure, but an attractive and modern structure that creates new urban space, thus becoming a new destination in itself. With its panoramic observation platforms, it turns into a public grandstand inviting to enjoy new views and vistas towards Warsaw’s stunning skyline and UNESCO World Heritage sites. Judges Comments The new pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Vistula River in Warsaw is a technically sophisticated structure combining engineering efficiency with urban integration. Utilizing a continuous beam system supported by five piers and three abutments, the design includes a 120m main span meeting navigation clearance. Its non-linear, zig-zag alignment aligns with offset urban grids, creating observation platforms and enhancing orientation. An integral tension belt system shapes the structural form, while asymmetrical elements preserve key sightlines. The bridge functions as both infrastructure and urban space, promoting socio-economic connectivity.Structural Designer DKFS with Schüßler-Plan InżynierzyMr Thomas Stein / Mr Frank Ehrliche Location Warsaw, Poland |
