Renovation of Pavilions at Fiera Milano Project Description: The renovation of Pavilions 13-15 at Fiera Milano for the 2026 Winter Olympics creates a 35,000 square meters space by removing 12 columns, adding 4 steel lattice structures to support the roof, and demolishing a fire wall. The facility will host the Speed Skating track.Judges Comments For the 2026 Winter Olympics, two large exhibition halls were transformed into a unified space suitable for international sporting events through a bold structural intervention. The project removed 12 internal columns and introduced long-span steel portal trusses, enabling a 35,000 m² open volume without altering the original roof. Smart load transfer mechanisms, high-precision monitoring, and careful phasing allowed the retrofit to proceed efficiently and safely. It is a remarkable demonstration of adaptive reuse, engineering ingenuity, and architectural respect for existing structures. Structural Designer Studio Marzullo S.r.l. Arch.
