Project Description:
The Daishi Bridge expressway, which was opened in 1967, was renewed owing to multiple fatigue cracks throughout its superstructure. The damaged, aging bridge was taken apart and a new bridge spanning 292m and weighing approximately 4,500 tons was erected over a short period of merely two weeks.
Judges Comments
The Daishi Bridge renewal is a landmark in fast-track infrastructure replacement, delivering a new 300m-long bridge in just two weeks. The Rapid Whole Bridge Replacement method involved high-precision jacking and a fully prefabricated superstructure, dramatically reducing disruption and emissions. With impressive attention to lifecycle performance, seismic resistance, and permanent maintenance access, this project showcases how technical excellence and sustainability can go hand in hand. It stands out for its logistical sophistication and for demonstrating the potential of accelerated bridge construction in dense urban settings.
