Project Description:

HALO is a functional piece of architecture that promotes sustainable mobility but, at the same time, creates a sculptural structural volume that can be crossed, enriching the walk experience.

This urban elevator, with its associate footbridges, has already become a fundamental part of the identity and urban landscape of the city of Vigo.

Judges Comments

This landmark urban intervention combines an elevator tower and pedestrian loop bridge to improve vertical mobility in Vigo. The structure employs a spatial truss system with asymmetrical and symmetrical sections that respond to torsional and bending forces along the curved span. Its translucent cladding and integrated lighting transform it into a civic icon, while wind turbines contribute renewable energy for elevator operation.
