In behalf of the Scientific Committee of IABSE Congress Nanjing 2022, it is our great pleasure to invite you to attend the congress. Bridges and Structures: Connection, Integration and Harmonisation was chosen as the theme to emphasize the societal purpose and cultural influence of infrastructure rather than its structural functionality. Buildings and bridges not only work as connections between human and natural barriers but also integrate the society into the surroundings and creates a harmonisation environment, which, we believe, is the eventual goal of technical development and research innovation.

The conference will embrace fundamental and applied aspects of major frontier topics in this congress theme. Emphasis will be placed on new concepts and developments in both research and industrial applications. Active participations of younger researchers will be strongly encouraged by the Young Engineers Programme (YEP) and fee reductions for registered students.

The congress theme "Bridges and Structures: Connection, Integration and Harmonisation" remains more relevant than ever in the current extremely uncertain environment around the globe. We need to think and act collectively and collaboratively to understand how infrastructure and structural engineers are dealing and responding to the new challenges and demands of these times. While many of our colleagues and friends cannot meet in person due to travel restrictions, We hope you will still have plenty of opportunity to exchange knowledge and build long-lasting memory during this hybrid meeting.

Looking forward to meeting you in Nanjing Congress Online or Onsite.

CONGRESS GENERAL INFORMATION

Presentations

Full papers accepted by the Scientific Committee will be published in the IABSE Congress Proceedings, which will be available in electronic format before the Congress begins. The publication of each paper is conditional upon that the presenting author registers to attend the Congress. IABSE Congress Proceedings are abstracted and indexed under Scopus.

Language

All presenters are required to deliver their presentations in English. Simultaneous interpretation in Chinese is provided for the Opening Ceremony, Closing Ceremony and Keynote Sessions.

Congress Proceedings and Publication

A electronic version of full-paper proceedings will be provided to all registered participants prior to the Congress. A printed IABSE Congress Report will be published before the Congress which consists of the keynote full papers and the extended abstracts of all accepted full-papers. The IABSE Congress Report will be included in Ei Compendex database.
Please note that authors must register to the congress to have their full papers included in the electronic proceedings and the extended abstracts published in the IABSE Congress Report.

Technical Programme

Technical Visits

The Technical Visits include two world record-breaking bridge projects, both of which are under construction and located in Jiangsu Province across the Yangtze River near Nanjing. All Congress participants and accompanying persons will be privileged to visit these two bridges. More detailed information will be available in the final invitation and be updated on the congress website.

Chang-Tai Bridge, Jiangsu Province, China

• Railway / Highway cable-stayed bridge (under construction 2019-2024)
• New World record: main span 1176 m
• Time and Date: 08:00 - 12:00, 24 September 2022

The Chang-Tai Bridge is a highway and railway cable-stayed bridge that crosses the Yangtze River
and connects Taixing in the North bank and Changzhou in the South bank. When completed, its
1176-meter-long main span and 338-meter-long side span will set a new world record of the same
kind. The construction began in January 2019, and is expected to be finished in 2024.

Zhang-Gao Highway Bridge, Jiangsu Province, China

• Highway, Suspension bridge (under construction 2021-2026)
• World record: main span: 2300 m
• Time and Date: 12:00 - 17:00, 24 September 2022

The Zhang-Jing-Gao Bridge is located in the downstream of Chang-Tai Bridge. It crosses Yangtze
River, connecting three cities, namely Rugao, Jingjiang and Zhangjiagang. The total length of Zhang-
Jing-Gao Bridge is 29.8 km with a main-span of 2300m, which will be the longest suspension bridge
in the world.
Zhang-Jing-Gao Bridge will make many world records once it finished: It will become the longest
suspension bridge boasts the largest anchorage foundation, the longest continuous steel box girder,
the longest main cable and the highest steel-concrete composite cable tower.
