Task Group 1.12

Liaison with JCSS

Mission Statement/Objectives
In 1971, the Liaison Committee which coordinates the activities of six international associations in civil engineering, composed of CEB, CIB, fib, IABSE, IASS and RILEM, created a Joint Committee on Structural Safety, JCSS, with the aim of improving the general knowledge in structural safety. The link between JCSS and IABSE has until now been ensured through the Liaison Committee (for administrative matters) and through a Liaison officer appointed by IABSE to represent IABSE in the board of JCSS.

The liaison officer has traditionally been a member of C1 (and previously WC1), but the position of the liaison officer in the IABSE’s organisation has been unclear.

It is the mission of the task group to establish and propose a structure where the (technical) achievements of JCSS can come to the benefit of IABSE and vice versa.

Scope & Limitation
The members of the TG will consist of experts familiar with IABSE and or JCSS. The scope is to develop the future interaction between IABSE and JCSS. From the side of IABSE, the collaboration should not be limited to C1, but in the initial phase the ideas are developed in the framework of C1.

By means of workshops the ideas will be developed and discussed with the board of JCSS and the Technical Committee of IABSE.

The scope is to develop a final document specifying the interaction and collaboration within a period of 1 – 2 years.

Expected Project Output

  • 2 internal workshops
  • 1 draft concept
  • 1 final document specifying the collaboration between IABSE and JCSS
