Danish Structural Award 2018 -
The Danish group of IABSE is proud to announce the winner of the Danish Structural Award 2018:
The Railway Bridge "TP30" located south of Copenhagen.
The bridge is 512 m long crossing the highway – a main access to the greater Copenhagen area - under a very skew angle. The superstructure is a composite box girder supported on columns and on seven transverse frames with spans up to 32 m over the highway. This is the first time that a composite structure has been adopted for a highspeed railway line in Denmark and ensuring acceptable dynamic behaviour of the structure was a focus point in the design. The Danish Group of IABSE hosted a seminar on Bridge Construction Methods. The seminar presented the construction methods used on the two major bridge construction projects currently ongoing in Denmark – The New Storstrøm Bridge and the Frederikssund Fjord Link.
The topic of the seminar was the Contractors considerations and approach to detailed design and construction methodology. The talk on the Storstrøm Bridge Project “Innovative Construction Methods in the design of the New Storstrøm Bridge” was presented by Professor Mario de Miranda, Partner of DMA – de Miranda Associati Consulting Engineers, and Design Manager for the new Storstrøm Bridge. Whilst the “Frederikssund Fjord Link Project” was presented by Xavier Debruche, Project Manager – Besix (RBAI JV).
The seminar was held at the Frederikssund Fjord Link bridge construction site and offered the opportunity to visit the construction site itself. The site visit included access to the top of bridge deck, the substructure and the box girder itself. The participants also had a chance for close up inspection of the precast box girder segments, stored on the construction site.
The seminar was very well attended with close to 90 participants and included participation from IABSE Italy, IABSE Norway as well as IABSE Denmark.
