Bangladesh NG Organizes a Seminar on Bridge Engineering: Toward Definitive Outcomes
The seminar was organized at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka, on March 28, 2019. Prof. Dr. AFM Saiful Amin (Bangladesh) delivered the keynote speech supported by eight enlightening presentations on the recently accomplished construction of a few remarkable bridges over the mighty Sitalakhya, the Meghna and the Gumti rivers and associated flyovers for the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway (N1), the most important lifeline for Bangladesh. The construction for the second set of triplet bridges introduced new technologies to Bangladesh such as high damping rubber bearings for earthquake protection, narrow steel box girders for superstructure, steel pipe sheet pile groups for the foundation and progressive girder launching using the nose technique. Time-bound construction on the busiest corridor, a part of the future Asian highway, alongside the existing narrow bridges, had to adopt new technologies so that the old and new bridges can perform better in earthquakes and be protected from scour. Prof. Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury (Bangladesh) was the chief guest, and Professor Dr. Yoshiaki Okui (Japan) and Major General Abu Sayeed Md Masud (Bangladesh) were the special guests in the opening ceremony chaired by Mr. MA Sobhan, the chair of Bangladesh NG. One hundred twenty-six bridge engineers participated in the event. Download the report..
