Vancouver will host the 39th IABSE Symposium on the exploration of topics related to structural engineering of buildings, bridges and other civil infrastructure. The Symposium will showcase the latest in technology and practice to enable engineers, researchers and public agencies to plan ahead. The Symposium Organizers invite the world’s structural engineers to share their experiences with contemporary structures and their vision for the future.

The cosmopolitan city of Vancouver is located on Canada's spectacular West Coast. Direct flights from Europe, Asia and the Americas and the proximity of the airport to Downtown allow for easy access to the Symposium venue. Surrounded by the Pacific Ocean with rising mountains to the north, Vancouver is consistently rated as a top tourist destination, with exciting cultural, sporting and recreational activities for all.Vancouver’s walkable Downtown core features world-class galleries, cafés, and dining. Scientific Format and Programme
The Scientific Programme will include Plenary Sessions, Concurrent Sessions, Specialty Tracks, Panel Discussions and Poster Sessions. Invited keynote speakers will present lectures on significant topics related to structural engineering. Taking responsibility for the future means that our built environment must exhibit good performance with adequate safety over a long service life. We invite submissions under the following main themes that relate to our overall motto “Engineering the Future”:

The Symposium and IABSE’s Annual Meetings will take place at the Westin Bayshore Hotel & Conference Center, Vancouver, Canada - a modern, four-star hotel at the spectacular waterfront in Downtown Vancouver. An attractive room rate has been arranged for conference delegates, including the days before and after the Symposium for those wishing to extend their stay.
