The Conference 'Role of Structural Engineers towards Reduction of Poverty', New Delhi, India, February 19-22, 2005, was organised by the Indian Group of IABSE. It attracted 275 participants from India and 25 other countries.
The conference theme addressed the multidisciplinary aspects of structural engineering and was oriented towards sustainable infrastructure development with pre-disaster preparation and post-disaster mitigation. Contributions were presented in various sessions with following topics:
Reduction of Poverty and Holistic Approach; Rebuilding Hope – Rebuilding Infrastructure; Sharing of Experience in Developing Nations; Habitat and Building; Transportation Structures; Mitigation of Disaster; Water Supply and Public Sanitation, Irrigation and Flood Control and Energy Structures.
A Young Engineers Session and a Round Table Disccusion Session were also organised.
