IABSE Colloquium Report - Bergamo 1995
As more and more data is processed by computers, civil engineers need effective tools for interacting with this information. Advances in computer science must be translated in such ways that they support the knowledge and experience of civil engineers, and meet their practical needs. Symbolic and numerical information sources such as CAD systems, design databases, Internet, monitoring systems and even multimedia and virtual reality systems are becoming part of the engineer's workplace. The Report presents recent advances in harnessing these powerful tools to better serve civil engineers. The true advantage of computing is improved communication, not merely more precise numerical computation.
Research papers and experiments are presented on four themes:
- design and construction
- monitoring, evaluation and repair
- standards processing
- artificial intelligence technology.
