IABSE Symposium Report - St. Petersburg/Leningrad 1991
The Report considers all types of bridges and materials, from short spans to the longest. There are five theme topics dealing with general aspects, steel bridges, concrete bridges, evolution of materials, and long-span bridges. With the increased worldwide application of cable-stayed bridges and segmental construction, these topics are dealt with extensively in the papers. Looking to the future, the use of advanced composite materials are discussed, as are record-breaking projects in Denmark, France and Japan. Two workshops present topics concerning high-speed rail bridges and movable bridges.
The contributions put emphasis on practical rather than theoretical aspects. They are of particular value to structural engineers involved in projects and wishing to design and construct better bridges.
