IABSE Colloquium Report - Nyborg 1991The Nyborg Colloquium was the first time that structural engineers, contractors, biologists, ecologists, environmentalists, physicists, geologists and lawyers came together at an IABSE meeting to discuss the interaction between major civil works and the environment. Numerous examples of such interactions were presented and discussed at the colloquium: the Great Belt Link in Denmark; the Trans-Tokyo Bay Project and the Honshu-Shikoku-Crossings in Japan; the Channel Tunnel between Great Britain and France; floating bridges in Norway; and storm-surge barriers in The Netherlands, Belgium and Russia.
The Report includes contributions on the following themes: barriers; bridges; tunnels; highways and channels; novel approaches for environmental measurements; and the role of public opinion.
This report makes engineers aware of environmental questions.
