The first phase of SATUOeiras (Automated System of Urban Transportation of Oeiras) has been in service since the middle of May 2004. This paper presents this new transportation system and the infrastructure. The total infrastructure is made of separate structures, the stations and the viaducts between them being designed independently. The structural design of the system’s first phase is described in this paper, highlighting its most important details.
