50th Anniversary of NG!
On December 5, 2018, the Portugese Group of IABSE (APEE - Associação Portuguesa de Engenharia de Estruturas) celebrated their 50th Anniversary and hosted a conference in Lisbon. After the welcome address by the Chair of the APEE, Adão da Fonseca, and the President of LNEC, Carlos Pina, the program included a brief review of the History of the APEE, by the vice-chair Luís Oliveira Santos, followed by a presentation of the IABSE President, Fernando Branco, on "90 years of IABSE: challenges and opportunities". The first part of the program was closed by the Ferry Borges Prize Award ceremony. This Prize aims to reward the best paper in the field of structural engineering, developed in connection with Portuguese entities, published in the last three years. This year the award went to: João Pedro Santos, Christian Crémona, André D. Orcesi & Paulo Silveira for their paper "Multivariate statistical analysis for early damage detection", published in Engineering Structures 56 (2013) 273–285,
. The event highlight was the keynote lecture of Prof. Fabrizio Palmisano on "The Genoa bridge collapse: background and state of the art of the investigation". The conference was a success, with more than 200 participants, who had an active participation in the lively and interesting final debate.
