March 13-14 - Young Engineers Colloquium (YEC2020)

IABSE's three National Groups are looking forward to receiving interesting project descriptions from young engineers under 35 years of age (born 1984 or later). Please submit/inform young engineers to submit a two-page paper in English by 14 February 2020 to YEC2020@iabse.be.

June 13 - Structural Engineers Seminar
A Seminar will be held at Witteveen+Bos, Stationsweg 5, 4811 AX Breda, which will have a selection of the Dutch and Belgian contributions to the IABSE Nantes symposium and the IABSE conference in Copenhagen, last year. The seminar shall consist of presentations as on the following topics: structures and architecture, land mark bridges, buckling instability, hybrid structures, robustness, reliability, existing bridges and renovation, proof load testing, strengthening and fatigue. March 15-16, The Belgian and Dutch National Groups of IABSE organized Young Engineers Colloquium 2019 (YEC2019) on 15 and 16 March 2019 at Eindhoven University of Technology in The Netherlands. YEC2019 is especially meant for young engineers to exchange knowledge internationally, with the focus on Belgium and the Netherlands. The colloquium was open to all professionals interested in structural engineering regardless their age, but apart from the keynote speaker, all presenters are young engineers under 35 years of age. Seminar on Structural Challenges in Soft Mobility
- the Belgian Group of IABSE is organising a seminar on
Structural Challenges in Soft Mobility in Neder-Over-Heembeek (Business
Faculty Brussels) in Belgium. The programme consists of lectures,
presentations and discussions, offering a broad perspective on the
entire theme of structural challenges in soft mobility. Starting from
policy views and needs, it further elaborates on the conceptual and
architectural implementation and integration of these bridges in the
environment and in society. The comfort requirements and creativity in
the use of materials is discussed. Various structural solutions for
pedestrian and bicycle bridges are explained on the basis of recent
national and international designs or realisations. Finally, the
evolution of soft mobility is discussed in the short as well as the long
With the organisation of this seminar, the Belgian Group of IABSE wants
to launch an exchange of opinions and ideas, using a wide range of
differing positions, views and ideas concerning the existing policies,
architectural trends concerning pedestrian and cycling infrastructure,

- a site visit was organised
by the Belgian Group of IABSE on the Works of the A11 road connection between Bruges and Knokke in
Belgium. The focus of the visit was situated on the visit of a large
concrete viaduct and a movable steel bridge under construction. See the photos..
