Bo L.O. Edlund, Sweden
Professor emeritus Bo. L.O. Edlund, has been awarded with Honorary Membership of IABSE. The President of IABSE, Jacques Combault, presented the Award on September 9, 2009, at the Opening Ceremony of the 33rd IABSE Symposium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Born 1936, Professor Edlund, received his Civil Engineering degree at Chalmers University of Technology, Göteborg, Sweden, in 1960. After employment as a research and teaching assistant he worked as a structural engineer at two consulting engineering firms in Göteborg in the mid 1960´s. He was University Lecturer in Steel and Timber Structures at Chalmers and earned the degree of Tekn. Dr. (D.Sc.) in 1974. He was Professor of Steel and Timber Structures at Chalmers from 1981 to 2001. He served as Head of the Department of Structural Engineering and as Chairman of the Board of Education at the School of Civil Engineering.
His fields of interest and scientific work include: Steel structures, especially stability problems, thin-walled structures, bridges and fatigue. Timber Structures, especially behaviour and bearing capacity of glued elements. Computer Aided Engineering.
Member of IABSE since 1971, he has served in numerous IABSE committees: Working Commission 2 (Steel, Timber and Composite Structures), which he chaired from 1987-91; the Technical Committee which he chaired from 1995-99; the Administrative Committee from 1995-99, and the Executive Committee from 1995-2007. He was Vice President of IABSE from 1999-2007.
Professor Edlund’s technical expertise has been highly appreciated over the years, as long standing reviewer for the IABSE SEI Journal and seven IABSE Scientific Committees: Luxemburg Symposium 1985; Stockholm Colloquium 1986 (Chairman); Helsinki Congress 1988; Göteborg 1993; Lisbon 1997 (Co-sponsored); Lahti 2001; New Delhi 2005.
