Preliminary Invitation and Call for Papers

IABSE Symposium Wrocław, Poland, May 20-22, 2020
Synergy of Culture and Civil Engineering – History and Challenges

The IABSE Symposium Wrocław, ‘Synergy of Culture and Civil Engineering – History and Challenges’ will be held from May 20 to 22, 2020 in Poland. The Symposium aims at creating a forum for the debate on the development of bridge and structural engineering as part of worldwide culture, and on current challenges in this area. The Symposium is targeted at attendees from different stakeholders, respectively, from academia to industry. The scientific program will include Keynote, Plenary and Parallel Sessions over three days. The official language of the Symposium is English.

The Organising Committee, with Jan Biliszczuk and Paweł Hawryszków as Co-Chairs, and the Scientific Committee chaired by Jan Bień, is preparing a very attractive and innovative Symposium with sessions with specialised themes.

Technical Visits to interesting projects and to research facilities, guided by local engineers, are planned during the Symposium, and are open for accompanying persons. More detailed information will be available in the Final Invitation and at the Symposium website www.iabse.org/wroclaw2020.

Young Engineers Contribution Award will be given to two young authors, born in or after 1986, who have personally presented their paper during the Symposium, as selected by the jury from the presentations. The prize is sponsored by the IABSE Fellows and the Organising Committee. These awards consisting of financial prizes will be presented at the closing of the Symposium. Delegates born in 1986 or later will enjoy reduced registration fees.

Call for Abstracts

Participants wishing to present a paper are invited to submit an abstract in PDF format, not exceeding 300 words, related to the theme and topics of the Symposium by March 31, 2019. Abstracts will only be accepted through our online peer review system using the template available at the online submission platform on the Symposium webpage: www.iabse.org/wroclaw2020. The Scientific Committee will review all submitted abstracts for acceptance.
