Bernard Raspaud, France

Bernard Raspaud, France,  has been awarded with Honorary Membership of IABSE.  The President of IABSE, Jacques Combault, presented the Award on September 9, 2009, at the Opening Ceremony of the 33rd IABSE Symposium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Bernard Raspaud graduated from the “Centre des Hautes Etudes de la Construction” in Paris France. Today, he is Director of the European Council for Construction Research, Development and Innovation; he is President of the French Construction Platform and he chairs the Innovation Committee of the European Construction Industry Federation.

In his career, in the French Administration for Roads and Bridges and in Bouygues Company, he was in charge of designing or carrying out numerous bridges, tunnels and great buildings: among others, the Bubiyan Bridge in Kuwait or the Normandy Bridge in France, the Roissy Terminal 2 or the Grande Arche in Paris.  In 2001 he was appointed Director at the Directorate General of Bouygues.

From 1992 to 1998, the French Minister of Public Works appointed Bernard Raspaud at the Council for Research in Civil Engineering. He was first President and is Honorary Member of the Paris Chapter of the American Concrete Institute and he is Honorary Member of AFGC, the French Group of IABSE.

Bernard Raspaud, former Vice-President of IABSE from 1993 to 2001, serves since 2001 as Member of the IABSE Outstanding Structure Award Committee. In 2001, he chaired the IABSE Outstanding Paper Award Committee and since 1980, he presented numerous papers in congresses, conferences or symposia of IABSE.
