‘The Evolving Metropolis’
|September 2 and 3, 2019
September 4,5 and 6, 2019
Organised by the US Group of IABSE
- The Evolving Metropolis: In the heart of what many consider the greatest city in the world, this congress will explore sub-themes of preservation, development, the appropriate use of technology, resiliency and climate change, and the role and responsibility of the engineer in an urban context. The scientific program will include plenary, sub-plenary and concurrent sessions, including panel discussions, interactive sessions and poster sessions.
- The Congress will be held at the Javits Center located on Manhattan’s West Side along the Hudson River. The building is directly connected to the iconic High Line elevated park and the rail yard development and adjacent to most major subways, allowing for direct access to some of the City’s most exciting old and new architecture.
- Embracing the metropolitan theme, the congress will offer cultural and networking events showcasing the architectural, infrastructure and urban planning of New York City. Some planned events include an architectural boat tour, 9/11 Memorial & Museum visit, Brooklyn Bridge walking tour and behind the scenes tours of NYC infrastructure.
